This was May’s
box, which I received in June and finished in July. We are no longer in Europe,
and this box was Transatlantic… that's right, it’s the USA! So, what was in the
Original Box and how did I rate it?
Sweet
- Pop Tarts – delicious toaster pastries. Did you
know you can eat Pop Tarts straight from the pack, from the toaster or even the
freezer? I had Fruit Loops flavour, which I've never had before. It’s an
American cereal, which is full of citrus flavour. I prefer the red fruit Pop
Tarts and occasionally the chocolatey ones but found these very citrussy. I'm
not sure I'd like the cereal either.
- Nutter Butter – peanut butter sandwich cookies. Four
in a packet just wasn't enough. So moreish with a really nice peanut butter flavour.
The biscuits were light to counteract the richness of the middle.
Savoury
- Cheez-it – crunchy square crackers made with a
cheese flavoured pastry. I found the texture weird, as it was like a cracker/pastry
hybrid and nothing like Cheeselets that we have over here. They were quite salty and
cheesy – nice but only in small doses.
- Ruffles – crisps with the savoury flavour of
cheddar and sour cream between each ruffle. Now I can't even describe the
flavour nor what it reminds me of, but these were delicious and so crunchy too
- Combos
Pizzeria – oven-baked
pretzels with cheese pizza flavour filling. These looked a bit like dog treats,
and I didn't think I'd like them too much. And I was right – too much pretzel and
not enough filling or pizza flavour for my liking.
- Cheetos
Flamin’ Hot – a spicy
corn snack. And boy were these spicy! I should have known by the bright red
colour. I had to bin most of the pack, they made my mouth hurt and my eyes
water.
Confectionery
- Butterfinger
& Three Musketeers –
two treat size bars to enjoy and I ate them both in the same sitting.
Butterfinger is best described as a peanut brittle, almost like layer upon
layer of sweet peanut toffee – delicious! A Three Musketeers bar is a Mars
without the caramel: a sweet nougat, covered in chocolate. I couldn't decide on
a favourite.
- Jolly
Ranchers Gummies – I
was so looking forward to trying these. Instead, I received a theatre box of Original
Swedish Fish. Red Berry gummies in the shape of a fish, marked with the brand
name. Nice enough (and were rated full marks!), but not what I was expecting and having waited a long time to
receive the box due to problems with the contents, it would have been nice to
have received the actual product, or at least an email to say they were having
trouble sourcing the original contents and there would be replacements.
- Tootsie Pop – a lollipop filled with chocolate
chewy Tootsie Roll. The lolly tasted like cherry, and it was sickly sweet, but the
chocolate centre was a nice surprise.
- M&Ms Fudge
Brownie – crispy sugar
shells filled with a gooey fudge brownie centre. You can't go wrong! The centre
was rich and indulgent, and I imagine these would be amazing in a batch of
chocolate brownies for extra fudginess.
Drink
- Fanta Pineapple
– bubbly and refreshing!
I love anything pineapple, so this was always going to be a winner. I had tried
it before – bought from my favourite confectionery site Sweet One. This time I
mixed the Fanta with Malibu – what a taste sensation!
And now, time
to rate the USA box. There were 11 products and I scored seven full marks. However,
I wasn't a fan of three of them – giving the Snack Surprise USA box a total
score of 26 out of 33. But where does it rank on the leader board?
Oh, and funnily
enough my next box arrived yesterday. Sadly, I wasn't at home, and it sat on
the doorstep all day – on what must be the hottest day of the year! I opened
the contents to find that all the chocolate had melted (shock), the packets and
can of drink were really hot. And while I'd put it all in the fridge, who knows
how the products will turnout – no doubt a melted mess re-hardened! I’ll review
it still anyway, so look out for that post next month!
