I mentioned in my last food post the number of Turkish and Mediterranean restaurants but there’s recently been a few burger places popping up too. I have to admit, I love a smash burger, but Philly’s in Wolverton is so much more than that.
While predominantly a
takeaway, there is some seating with bench booths either side. The decor is so
slick – think black and chrome, with the Philly’s logo (a burger, of course),
displayed across the counter. It’s place you’re happy to linger over the mouthwatering
and finger licking food.
While we were the only
ones eating in, the atmosphere was very relaxed – and the owner spent time
chatting to us and offering us his recommendations, which was a nice touch.
On the Philly’s menu,
you’ll find a variety of smash burgers, buttermilk chicken burgers, wraps and
sandwiches, and chicken tenders. Both the Philly cheesesteak and chicken &
waffles are popular – and it’s the latter I’ll be going for next time, for
sure! You can order the majority of the menu as a single item, or make it a
meal, dependent on how hungry you’re feeling. There are also loaded fries,
which can be ordered alone or with a drink.
What I love – and what
sets Philly’s apart from other joints – is that they make all their sauces and
dips in house… the chilli sauce and garlic mayo were my faves, but I loved the
ranch (which accompanies the tenders) too.
To eat, I had the hot
honey chick – crispy buttermilk chicken breast, dipped in Philly’s hot honey sauce,
served with American cheese, pickles, slaw, house mayo and Philly’s sauce.
Honestly, it was heaven – as you can probably see from my face. The hot honey
sauce completely covered the burger, but the coating wasn’t soggy. I’m obsessed
with pickles and slaw, as well as hot honey errythang – so it was always gonna
be a winner in my books. Surprisingly, it wasn’t too messy! I had a few Cajun
fries (we shared the portion), which were very well seasoned and tasty.
We also shared a portion of the BBQ chicken tenders (a portion of 6, rather than 10) and wow! These were sticky, messy, comfort food at it very best – and unbelievably moreish, although I’m glad we didn’t opt for 10. I’d recommend ordering your meal with a side of tenders. I’d personally go for hot honey next time, but there are a variety of sauces and levels of heat to choose from.
To drink, I chose the
Kinder Bueno milkshake, which was super thicc and tasty. As well as the
dreamiest shakes, Philly’s also serve a real array of soft drinks and mojitos…
I loved the different brands on offer: Rubicon, Mirinda and Zanti. The dessert
offering is milk cake, which I’ve never tried before – but it sounds delicious!
It’s definitely the
sort of place you could take the kids too and they would enjoy – there’s a
children’s menu but I know my eldest would 100% choose a big adult, dirty
burger. The kids’ menu is priced at £5.99 which is good value for freshly
cooked food.
What a yummy treat
this was – so thank you to the team at Philly’s for having me.
