Turkish cuisine at Gunaydin, Milton Keynes [PR]

A cozy restaurant featuring pink chairs and vibrant flowers hanging from the ceiling, creating a cheerful atmosphere.

We are completely spoilt for choice in Milton Keynes when it comes to Turkish and Mediterranean restaurants. While Gunaydin means ‘good morning’, we had a good afternoon at the restaurant, which is based at Winchester Circle in Kingston.

To sum up, Gunaydin boasts stunning interiors and good food in a relaxing ambience. I was invited for lunch, and you can find out more on Instagram. But as soon as we stepped through the doors, we were given a friendly welcome and shown to our table.

I was blown away by the décor, with the gorgeous flower walls, beautiful greenery and foliage hanging from the ceiling and lots of pink. I loved the different textures – from exposed brickwork to a mix of leather and velvet seating. The hanging lights were just stunning and acted as a sort-of centrepiece.

A table set with two plates of delicious food and a bowl of dip, ready for sharing and enjoying a tasty meal together.

While looking at the menu, we sipped delicious mocktails. I had the Mediterranean Breeze (passionfruit syrup, cranberry, watermelon, and lemonade), while my friend had Bubblygum (bubblegum, apple, cranberry, lime and lemonade) – both tasted as delicious as they looked.

We began with breads and dips, as well as the cold mezze for two. Ideal for sharing, we got to sample a variety of flavours – many of which, I’d not tried before. The platter included pink hummus, cacik, hummus, Russian salad, baba ganoush and saksuka. Not only vibrant in colour, but so flavoursome, the pink hummus was my favourite!

A wooden tray filled with a delicious assortment of meat, rice, and fresh vegetables, ready to be enjoyed.

For my main course, I nearly always have the same at Turkish restaurants – the Adana kebab. I had Gunaydin’s mixed Adana: one chicken kebab, and the other, lamb. Grilled to perfection and packed full of flavour, the dish came served with rice and house salad (lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and red cabbage). I tried the chilli, but it was too hot for me – but I was most impressed with the portion size.

Gunaydin have a variety of sharing platters which all sounded dreamy, if I’m honest – particularly the mixed platter, which contained a variety of kebabs, ribs and wings with the usual accompaniments. I’d be inclined to try one of those on my next visit.

A delicious dessert on a plate, topped with a scoop of creamy ice cream, ready to be enjoyed.

There’s always room for pudding and with so many authentic Turkish desserts on the menu, I found it hard to choose what to try. In the end, it just had to be the baklava – which is one of my favourite all-times desserts. The portion was very generous, with four squares of baklava and a scoop of super indulgent chocolate ice cream. I also finished with a cup of apple tea, which was very refreshing and lovely end to the meal.

Throughout, the service was excellent – efficient and friendly, without being too overwhelming. The restaurant has such a lovely atmosphere, emphasised by the floral elements of the décor, which make it so Instagrammable. It was all very relaxing, making Gunaydin an ideal choice of a catch up with girlfriends (particularly if you’re shopping in the area), as much as a romantic date night (the mood lighting is the one) – particularly with the sharing plates.

You can’t go wrong with a Turkish and Gunaydin didn’t disappoint – I’ll definitely return. Thank you to the team at Gunaydin for having me.
