This summer, there was so much going on. We began by
collecting an activity booklet and went straight to the maize maze. There were
six clues to find with questions to answer – all related to bees. We definitely
got lost a couple of times and after completing the clues, we then couldn’t
find our way out. There were some fun games and photo opportunities along the
way.
As usual, Alfie enjoyed the Play Patch – with Bale
Mountain, ride-on tractors, duck racing and more… there were garden games out
in the flower fields too, including giant Jenga, hoopla and cornholes. There
are benches, so I love that I can sit and relax while he enjoys himself. I
reckon he would spend all day on the hay bales if I let him.
We love the café and shop – always selling a lovely array
of toys, gifts, and homeware, with a focus on local and small businesses. Alfie
had packed a lunchbox and little man had a bottle of milk, so I grabbed a
coffee and piece of brownie, which was yummy. The cakes are always tasty… as
are the homemade sausage rolls. There’s a decent selection of snacks and
everything is so reasonably priced.
Feeling suitably full, it was then a good time to complete
the Wildlife Wander – a walk around the farm with various checkpoints. Alfie
had to find the right footprints and collect brass rubbings to win a prize. There
were two routes: the Oak Tree Trek (1.4km) and the Lady Bird Loop (1.9km) – we did
the latter as it was more buggy friendly. It was so lovely to be out in the
open air, as we also learned more about woodland creatures, including deer,
owls, rabbits, mice, foxes and squirrels.
We had booked the tractor ride (I think it was £2 per
person; free for babies) but had a bit of time to kill, so it was the perfect
opportunity to sit in the sunshine with an ice cream. I was pleased to see Marshfield
Farm tubs (the fancy ones you get at the theatre), and I treated myself to the
Strawberry & Marc de Champagne sorbet, while Alfie had the Heavenly Honeycomb
ice cream. There was also time to enjoy the beach – complete with beach toys
(buckets, spades, beach balls) and super cute, branded deck chairs. Little man
even had a chillax. The tractor ride then took us around the farm, and we even
saw the route we had previously walked… it was nice to watch the landscapes
pass us by.
And then it was time for the flowers – a quick wander
around as I had one grumpy boy. I grabbed some secateurs and went in hunt of
some flowers for a lovely bouquet. The dahlias were £2 a stem, and they looked
beautiful – with a variety of pinks, purples, whites and yellows. I bought a
bunch and had another look around the shop before heading for home. You can see
all of our adventures here.
Pumpkin Picking and Spooky Season is now at Lillingstone,
so don’t miss the festivities – tickets are available online and it’s £10 per
car (so what better reason to bring the whole family along). We cannot wait to
join the team for a spellbinding time!
