We are blessed with so many independent restaurants in Milton Keynes and one of my favourites is right on our doorstep – The Greedy Italian in Fenny Stratford. It’s one of those places that’s perfect for any occasion: date night, family meals and brunch with the girls… and you all know I love a brunch! I’d not actually been for brunch (or to the restaurant at all) since its refurb. It’s honestly such a vibe in there, while it still retains the intimacy it’s known for.
Brunch is a two-course affair, with the option to purchase
an additional course as per the menu. It’s priced dependent on the drinks
package you choose, with options including non-alcoholic beverages, prosecco, gin,
and cocktails – and while you have to commit to the same drink throughout the
brunch, the table doesn’t need to all have the same drink. In fact, we went as
a group of eight and while the majority chose prosecco (£43pp), a couple of the
girls opted for gin (£49pp). The bottomless drinks are available for 90 minutes.
First of all, how beautiful are the glasses – I love the
gold rims – and the strawberries and flowers were a lovely touch too. Compared
to my last visit, there were more options on the food menu – with four starters
and main courses to choose from – and we all pre-booked, due to the group size.
I didn’t know what everyone else had ordered and there was some food envy!
To start, I chose the burrata with tomato carpaccio, basil
pesto and micro salad. This was such a fresh dish, and the burrata was soft and
creamy – nice and light, so I didn’t immediately feel full. I was envious of
those that ordered the crispy calamari – usually my go-to starter if it’s on
the menu, but I didn’t want to go double fish (although a couple of the girls
did). The other options were bruschetta and mussels.
My main course was always going to a no-brainer – the crab
linguini. The Greedy Italian serve the best pasta dishes, and this certainly
didn’t disappoint. There was plenty of crab meat and the creamiest sauce, laced
with garlic and red chilli. It was divine. Those that paid the supplement (£8.50)
for the fillet steak said it was well worth it, while the paccheri bolognaise
proved the most popular main dish.
I couldn’t resist but order the tiramisu for dessert – it’s
one of my favourite desserts and I’ll always order it at an Italian restaurant –
and just look at that beauty! It was incredible, but I couldn’t manage it all.
I’m not sure if I’d filled up on fizz, or perhaps because I’d ordered an accompanying
espresso martini… one of my friends did the same and I didn’t need much
persuading!
As always, the service was excellent. We were well looked after, and the bottles of fizz flowed nicely, while those that ordered the gin never had empty glasses. The décor, ambience and service are among the reasons why I love The Greedy Italian, but of course the authentic Italian food cannot be beaten. I’d always recommend the restaurant for brunch or dinner...there's a date night menu every Wednesday and it's lobster night every Thursday!
