Happy
New Year everyone! I always enjoy writing these posts and reflecting on the
year that has passed, but always struggle to cram it into 16 pictures. If you
read last year’s post, you’ll know how much of a struggle things were and how
much I was hoping for a good year. Well, while it wasn’t the best, it was
certainly better and full of things to be thankful for and appreciate, as I
look back.
After
an additional four months of maternity leave, I managed to find a full-time
job, which I really enjoy. This meant putting Alfie into a nursery three days a
week, which is the best thing we have done. He’s such a social butterfly and
his development has come on incredibly – he’s definitely advanced for his age.
If like me, you struggle with mum guilt – don’t. I love my working environment
and know that Alfie is thriving, which is so fulfilling.
We
had two lovely family holidays – a road trip around Scotland and a week in
Madeira. The island was really beautiful, peaceful and relaxing; somewhere I’d
highly recommend and we say we will return to. During our 10-day trip north of
the border, Ash proposed with Alfie giving me the ring – a total surprise, but
the best surprise! We’ve also had countless days out and done lots of things as
a family, as I think it’s really important.
The
house renovations have been coming along nicely, which has also made me feel
more settled. I’ve got a good group of friends here now – and we try and do
something together monthly, if possible. It was sociable around Christmas, as I
hosted with drinks and nibbles and we had our mum’s Christmas dinner.
2020
is going to be a busy one. Ash and I are both 30 this month – me on January 16th,
and him 15 days later! My mum has a big birthday in July (which she won’t thank
me for reminding her) and of course, our little Alfiekins will be 3. No doubt
the wedding planning will begin and the work on the house and garden will
continue.
Last
year, I decided not to make resolutions and my aim was to complete as much of
my ’30 before I’m 30’ list as possible. I think I’m only on 11/30, which isn’t
great, but a lot of the things on there were pretty unachievable. I’m planning
on changing it in the coming weeks, to match my decade – and again, hope I tick
more off.
Ash
and I have also made a ’30 things because we’re 30’ list. It’s 30 things we’ve
never done before: 10 for him, 10 for me and 10 that apply to both of us. I
will of course turn it into a post, so we can track our progress, but it will
be something to look forward to and broaden our horizons.
But
I will vow to do one thing in 2020 and that is to take more time for myself.
Whether it’s a 10 minute face mask or relaxing in the bath, going to bed early
and reading a book, or shutting myself in the office to write a blog post. I
don’t think I really have hobbies anymore and have come to understand how
important self-care is.
Thank
you to everyone who continues to read Love, Lucy xx – I can’t believe I started
this over seven years ago now (throwback first post here). I honestly
appreciate every like, comment and share.
Wishing
you all the happiest and healthiest year ahead.
Love,
Lucy xx
