On
Saturday, I went to my very first blogger event/meet up and I have to admit, I
was nervous en route, as I had no idea what to expect, I was going on my own
and I’d never been to Bury before. The event was organised by the lovely Daisy
(http://www.daisydaisyxxo.co.uk/)
and she had hired the upstairs of a bar/restaurant called The LP, for Essex,
Suffolk and Norfolk bloggers.
I
was one of the first to arrive, along with Gemma (http://gemsblogstorey.com/), who came
with her friend Kirsty – it was so good to meet a fellow Essex blogger as most
of my friends are London-based. Daisy greeted us, but was still setting up, so
relaxed on some plush sofas, eyeing up the trays of Hotel Chocolat chocolates. It
wasn’t long before more bloggers arrived and I met the lovely Hannah (http://www.thelifeofpyexo.blogspot.co.uk/)
and Christie (http://christieslifestyle.blogspot.co.uk/).
As the venue filled and we had broken the ice, we left the sofas and started to
circulate.
We started
off at the Ivy Joan table, which was full of beautiful homeware items, as well
as cards and prints – and even clothing! Ivy Joan stock vintage and High Street
fashion by Neon Rose and Vero Moda and there were some gorgeous statement a/w
pieces on display. The table was definitely a blogger’s and home-lover’s
paradise with bits ranging from wooden lettering and framed prints, to the most
amazing Christmas Russian dolls set and other festive items like baubles. We
received a 10% discount for purchases made on the day and I couldn’t resist in
buying a gift card and ceramic ‘LOVE’ decoration – although when I found out
card payment was accepted, I wanted to buy everything! Keep your eyes peeled
for an Ivy Joan post.
Next
up was The Charity Candle Co, who – you guessed it – sell candles, with some of
the profits going to a chosen charity. There were jars in varying sizes
(ranging from the £2.50 mini, to the £12 large), but also spiced orange pine
cones and hand-baked scented clay shapes – perfect for the upcoming season. The
spiced orange was popular with everyone and was so wintry and comforting. I
picked up a lemon/lime wax tart sample, which I cannot wait to burn – but I’ll
definitely be stocking up on spiced orange candles and cones. They will also
make the most perfect gifts.
Another
brand showcasing their products was Odylique, who specialise in skincare and
cosmetics. I hadn’t heard of them before, but their range
of products are all organic, using natural ingredients. Many are also targeted
at those with dry and sensitive skin, as well as conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
We were lucky enough to receive a couple of products in our goodie bags! I wish
I had purchased the super fruit serum on the day, it looked amazing. And there was
also an exfoliating scrub, called coconut candy, which contained so many
natural ingredients, it could be eaten!
The
final company there was YooHoo Mail – which was actually set up by Daisy’s mum,
who’s a graphic designer. YooHoo Mail is a monthly stationery subscription box
and there were some really amazing greetings cards, postcards and other paper
bits on display – all with bright colours and eye-catching type face. We all
put our names and email addresses into a draw and Daisy’s mum gave away five
boxes of goodies. This was totally up my street and I know my best friend Laura
would love it too – so I can’t wait to see YooHoo evolve!
As
well as a henna table (which I didn’t go to), there was a selfie station with
lots of dressing up and disguises – and it was there I met Emily (http://www.emgrace.co.uk/), one of the
first bloggers I ever followed; and Hannah (http://www.kiziwoo.com/). Both girls were so
friendly and chatty and we spent ages nattering and taking selfies with big
pouts, glasses and moustaches!
Daisy
had also organised a raffle at 50p a strip with the money going to charity.
Brands were very generous in giving items away and there were so many prizes,
ranging from stationery, to makeup and teeth whitening products. Helen Hird,
who was also in attendance, donated an A3 illustration of the winner’s choosing
and the most popular prizes included a Magnitone, Benefits products and a
French Connection gift set. Needless to say, I wasn’t a winner – despite my 30
tickets! But once the draw was done, Daisy kindly handed out the goodie bags.
If you’ve seen photos on Twitter or Instagram, you’ll know we were very lucky
and completely spoilt! The cute canvas bags were by Life Tonics and there were
bottles of coconut water on the bar for us to help ourselves too – as well as
hand-iced biscuits, marshmallow ghosts, cookie cutters and candles.
I’ll
be posting the goodie bags in a separate post, but all that’s left for me to
say is, thank you so much Daisy for organising such an incredible event. I had
the loveliest afternoon – and I don’t know why I was so nervous for! I cannot
wait to see the girls at another meet-up and hopefully we’ll get Christmas
drinks sorted?!
Love,
Lucy xx
