When
the lovely people at BabyLed sent me their range of spreads for review, I was
super excited to get creative in the kitchen and also for Alfie to try
something new. As most people know, we started weaning Alfie just before he was
six months and it’s been a breeze – he eats anything and everything (our
holiday in Madrid’s living proof of that)! I also love to make his meals from
scratch and try to buy as little pre-made jars and pouches as possible. I’m
lucky that he’ll eat whatever Ash and I have for dinner – but he also loves
sausages and sweet potato mash or the occasional fish finger!
I
received all six jars of BabyLed Spreads*. The ‘original’ pack contained
ricotta & bean; avocado, red pepper & tomato; and carrot, apple &
hummus. There’s also a dairy-free pack and this contained green pea, rocket
& dill; red lentil & sweet potato; and spicy pumpkin & chickpea.
First off, let me comment on the packaging... it’s so simple to understand and
easy-to-read. All the information is there at your fingertips and you’re not
bombarded with words. The predominant colour of white is clean and you know
exactly what you’re getting from the product.
Let’s
move on to the product. Each jar is 34g and all products are suitable for
vegetarians (with four out of the six flavours also suitable for vegans). The
jars are free from artificial colours, flavours and preservatives. I personally
think the jars are suitable for more advanced weaners/palates, but if you’re
keen to introduce multiple flavours in one go at the first stage, then these
products are perfect. You can use them for dipping bread sticks or toast
fingers, spread them onto bread or crackers, or use them to create a full meal –
BabyLed Spreads are such a fantastically versatile product. I tried a few of
the pots myself and was pleased with the flavour; they’re not at all bland,
unlike other similar products. Alfie liked them all, some more than others, but
our favourite was undoubtedly the spicy pumpkin & chickpea... and the
recipe I’m about to share is absolutely banging! In fact, I have three recipes
to share with you – so get purchasing and get cooking!
