TREsemme Make Waves hairspray c/o TREsemme
I was recently sent a bottle of the TREsemme Make Waves hairspray* for review and I have to say, I was so excited to try it out. I’m one of those people whose hair is neither straight, nor curly, but is also so thick. For ease and time, I prefer to straighten my hair; however, when I’m out or for special occasions, I love to wear my hair curly. This has been more often, since I got the BaByliss Curl Secret for Christmas – but I was yet to find a hairspray to hold my curls all day (or night). That has now changed!

Make Waves is part of TREsemme’s Runway Collection (other products: Get Sleek and Max the Volume) and is aimed at styling waves/curls with definition and bounce. First of all, I love the sleek bottle – the orange on black stands out, particularly in comparison with competition. The bottle is a decent size and the lid is great when travelling; there’s nothing worse than hairspray film in your bag.

I’ve used the product three times so far, twice when curling my hair with the Curl Secret and once when sleeping with my hair in plaits. It’s definitely suited more to styled curls than it is natural waves and I found that the product didn’t last all day at work when I used it that morning on my plaited hair. However, I recently curled my hair for a wedding and not only did it last the 14 hours I was there, it actually held for the following two days (I did sleep with my hair in a messy bun for one of those nights) – incredible!

The spray is strong, so you don’t need much; I sprayed each section (5cm) of hair as I went along and then sprayed all over afterwards. It isn’t sticky and doesn’t dry crispy or hard, so your hair still feels normal. The scent is so luxurious, it doesn’t have that ‘hairspray’ smell and there’s definitely a perfume-y fragrance to it. Someone at work genuinely said I smelt good and I soon realised it was the hairspray, rather than Marc Jacobs Dot. I’m still not sure if that’s a compliment?

Pros
Cons
- Affordable
- Smells good
- Ideal for thick hair that doesn’t hold
- Lightweight
- Holds all day (and the next!)
- Don’t need too much
- Works on all hair lengths – even super long
- Doesn’t leave a film
- Doesn’t brush out well
- Takes two good shampoos to wash out
- Not as effective on waves
My favourite hairspray ever was previously the Percy & Reed Reassuringly Firm, but I have to say, I much prefer the TREsemme one – not only is it half the price (or more if it’s on offer!), but it’s definitely better in terms of hold, amount of product and scent. I’ll be purchasing Make Waves again, for sure. You will have seen it in my previous monthly favourites post.
You can buy Make Waves and the other two products in the range from all the usual retailers. You can currently save a third by purchasing from Superdrug. I’ll leave you with a Date Night selfie.
